STRENGTH TRAINING with 2 EXERCISES (Part II)

February 14, 2020

Last week I demonstrated three short, simple full body resistance training workouts using only 2 exercises for each. This is part II of last week. The point of all this is to 1) emphasize the importance Strength Training for adults 2) Demonstrate how short AND simple it can be 3) Inspire others to do something. Sure, we could all do nothing. But each of knows that is a really bad option. Why Strength Train? It helps with everything, literally. Fat loss? Yes. Muscle Gain? Yes. Heal from an injury? Yes. Improve health? Yes. Improve durability and usefulness? Yes, yes. Improve bone density? Yes. Improve chances of living happier longer. YES. You don’t need to exercise long or extremely intensely. A little done in the middle goes a long way. #strengthtraining #resistancetraining #longevity #austinpersonaltrainer #austinpersonaltraining #austinpersonaltrainers #healthylifestyle #blueskystrongbox

Not all Body Fat is created equal…

Not all body fat is created equal. The stuff on the outside and directly under the skin is called Subcutaneous Fat. The stuff on the inside is called Visceral Fat. The inside fat is more dangerous. Unfortunately, when we gain weight we increase both kinds. The good news is, when we lose body fat, especially by improving nutrition, caloric intake and exercising regularly, we decrease both kinds. It’s about so much more than the way we look. Take care of your body and it will take care of you. We only get one. #bodyfat #visceralfat #subcutaneousfat #healthyfatloss #healthynutrition #precisionnutrition #austinpersonaltrainer #austinpersonaltraining #austinpersonaltrainers #bssbbooks #blueskystrongbox

Walking is quite possibly the best exercise we as humans can do regularly. Many people think walking is too easy to qualify as exercise. I used to believe this as well. Of course, I was younger. Now that I’m a bit older, I value walking much more even though it is just as easy for me to do as it was in my 20’s & 30’s. A big reason my opinion has evolved is because in the last 15 years I hiked a lot of miles through wilderness and even climbed a few mountains. Things tend to become much more clear with distance and altitude. My point here is that walking can be almost all the cardio you’d ever need if you can simply learn to vary how you walk. Walking on flat ground is obviously the easiest version. Next would be to simply walk faster and swing the arms. Next you could either wear a backpack loaded with 5-25lbs or hold 1-5lb hand weights. My favorite version is to walk up and down steep hills. Of course, start slowly and with no weight and progress first to faster then lastly to adding extra weight. The best thing about walking is that you can do it every day for a lifetime and not have it destroy your body. #walkingexercise #hikingexercise #walkinghills #walkforalifetime #walkforhealth #healthylifestyle #austinpersonaltrainer #austinpersonaltraining #bssbbooks #blueskystrongbox

It’s Ok to NOT be Perfect

February 7, 2020

IT IS OK TO NOT BE PERFECT. I feel very strongly that striving to be perfect in almost any realm, while it may lead some to great achievements, leads many down roads that end in failure. With this failure, however slight or catastrophic, often comes a lingering feeling of guilt and shame. (And who needs that?!) With specific regard to health, fitness and nutrition, this is a major issue. Society already puts enough “other” pressure on us as adults and even as children. The marketing surrounding these massive industries is not really designed to be in our favor. It’s up to each of us to find our truth. I say all of this to let you know that it’s ok to be IMPERFECT. We all are. But don’t take this as a way of letting you off the hook to be care-free with your health. That would be very unwise. The main idea here is to hold yourself to a higher standard but do so without the pressure of being perfect. Strive to be pretty darn fantastic MOST of the time so you leave room for anything that might be less. Work hard, then play hard. Find balance in everything. Strive to be happy and content. Merry early Christmas! #fuckperfection #austinpersonaltrainer #austinpersonaltraining #newyearsresolution #blueskystrongbox
